He has a 21-year-old Daughter (Taylor) and would like to say, “Thanks for understanding dad is a coach, and being by my side through it all. Coach Latona also holds his Masters degree in Educational Leadership from NAU. Coach Latona received his Bachelors degree from Ottawa University and teaches Transition on campus. In 2006 Coach Latona played for the Glendale Rangers that won the state title and a National Championship. He played for the Arrowhead Lunatics, which won the state title three years in a row, 1999, 2000, and 2001. After Coach Latona’s high school and collegiate playing days, he continued to spend the next 8 years playing semi-pro football here in Arizona. After Glendale Coach Latona went to Abilene Christian University where he started at fullback and also played outside linebacker. That was the same year he beat coach Casey, who was an assistant coach at Arizona Western. After high school he attended Glendale Community College where he played fullback! In 1988 they won the NJCAA National Championship. Coach played fullback/linebacker for Greenway High School in Phoenix, Arizona. This will be Coach Latona’s 27th year of coaching, having spent 23 of them at the high school level and 4 at collegiate level. Varsity Assistant Coach - Robert Latona Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator A special shout out to our booster club, thanks for all you have done and will do for the program! He would also like to thank the outstanding administration, faculty and support staffs at O’Connor, you have made the transition a great experience and given me an opportunity of a lifetime. He would like to thank his staff for their hard work, dedication and tireless efforts that they have poured into the players and program. He is humbled, blessed and extremely excited to be the new Head Football Coach. For the last three years he has worked with the freshmen team at O’Connor and coached the Girl’s Golf Team for two years. He came to O’Connor 5 years ago as the Offensive Coordinator on the varsity. Coach then moved to the valley and took over at Horizon High School where he was head coach for 8 years. Former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Cain Velasquez played for him at Kofa. After NMHU he moved back to Yuma and coached eight years at Kofa High School, serving as the Head Football Coach for 6 of those years. He served as the Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for four seasons. Coach then moved on to New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico (YES, there is a Las Vegas in New Mexico). He then moved to Yuma, Arizona Western College where he coached for 8 seasons, the last 3 as the head coach. After his playing days, Coach Casey, started his coaching career at Virginia Tech for two seasons, coaching quarterbacks and defensive backs. He was team captain his senior year and ended his career as the second all-time leading passer in school history. He continued his football playing career earning a full scholarship to play quarterback at Virginia Tech. He was an All-State Player and made the Big 33 Team, he earned 11 varsity letters in high school as he also played basketball and baseball. Coach played high school football at Towanda High School in, Towanda, Pennsylvania. Coach started playing football at the age of 8, his father was in the Air Force and he moved around during his younger years. This will be Coach Casey’s 35th year of coaching spending 14 years at the collegiate level and 21 years at the high school level.Ĭoach Casey has five boys and two grandsons (no girls, expect Fiona).
